Ted Talk de Greg Claeys: “Why are utopias important for human mankind?”

Why are utopias important for human mankind?

What have they contributed in the past? How can they help us shaping a Golden Age for the future? There are probably few people who have scrutinized the many dimensions of utopias and dystopias as Gregory Claeys, Professor of the History of Political Thought at Royal Holloway, University of London and current chair of the Utopian Studies Society. Since receiving his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1983 he has dedicated himself to the study of British radicalism, socialism and utopianism from 1750 to the present. Gregory’s recent book Dystopia: A Natural History won him the Cantemir Prize in 2018 for contributions to humanistic scholarship. He is currently writing a book entitled Utopianism for a Dying Planet. Professor at University of London, Author, Editor, Chair of the Utopian Studies Society.
