Es Profesora de Investigación en el Instituto de Lenguas y Culturas del Mediterráneo (CCHS-CSIC). Trabaja sobre la historia política, social e intelectual de las sociedades islámicas premodernas, especialmente en el Occidente islámico (Norte de Africa y Península Ibérica), sobre el derecho islámico y la representación de la violencia en las sociedades islámicas.

Su interés por los temas relacionados con el proyecto DECOLTOPÍA  Descolonizar las utopías: utopismo no occidental, anticolonial y decolonial surge del uso que se hace de la historia de la presencia musulmana en la Península Ibérica para construir visiones tanto utópicas como distópicas. Por ello, su participación en el proyecto le servirá para familiarizarse con la extensa literatura sobre la utopía y para aprender de quienes trabajan sobre el tema. Podrá así aplicar lo aprendido a sus estudios sobre los distintos usos que se hacen de al-Andalus. También está interesada en las modernas utopías en circulación en los países musulmanes.

Is Research Professor at the Institute for the Languages and Cultures of the Mediterranean – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). She has published on the political, social and intellectual history of pre-modern Islamic societies, especially those of the Islamic West (al-Andalus and North Africa), on Islamic law and on the representation of violence in Islamic societies.

Her interest in topics related to the DECOLTOPÍA project arises from how the history of the Muslim presence in the Iberian Peninsula is used to construct both utopian and dystopian visions. Therefore, her participation in the project will help her become familiar with the extensive utopian literature and to learn from those who work on the subject. This will enable her to apply what she has learned to her studies on the different uses of al-Andalus. She is also interested in modern utopian thinking in Islamic societies.
